Mission:
Habitat for Humanity Virginia, the State Support Organization (SSO) for local Habitat for Humanity organizations in Virginia, exists to facilitate increased affordable homeownership opportunities for low-income and underserved populations and neighborhood revitalization through direct financing, the building or rehabilitation of housing, and partnerships with other community development organizations.
About:
Habitat for Humanity Virginia (HFHVA) is a State Support Organization of Habitat for Humanity International that was incorporated in May 2005. While we do not actually build houses, we do support, strengthen, and enable Virginia affiliates so that they can build or facilitate affordable housing. Our main focuses are training, resource development, and statewide advocacy for affordable housing.
HFHVA works with 51 local habitat affiliates across Virginia in the areas of advocacy, organizational development, and funding & resource development. Since the first affiliates were organized in Virginia in 1985 more than 1680 homes have been built or rehabbed for low-to-moderate income first time homebuyers across the Commonwealth.
Since it's founding in 1976, Habitat for Humanity affiliates around the world have built or repaired over 600,000 homes, serving more than 3 million people worldwide.
Habitat for Humanity affiliates are both builders and mortgage lenders that accomplish their mission by building with donated labor and materials, pricing the homes at cost, and holding zero interest mortgages.
